Helen Fagan, is featured on this week's episode of Faculty 101. Dr. Fagan is the director of leadership engagement for the Rural Futures Institute and assistant professor of practice of agricultural leadership, education and communication.

“The direct personal impacts of the weather events in general were around or below 30%, but nearly half of rural Nebraska felt the impact of the weather events psychologically, with increased levels of stress and anxiety,” said L.J. McElravy, associate professor of youth civic leadership at Nebraska. “The current COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn may be hitting Nebraskans with higher-than-normal levels of stress and anxiety.

Allen G. Blezek, professor emeritus of agricultural leadership, education and communication at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, died July 6. He was 74.

The Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication Department has two faculty members that have received promotion and tenure for 2020.

Dr. Gina Matkin was promoted to Full Professor and Eric Knoll to Associate Professor of Practice. On behalf of the ALEC department, we say thank you for your contribution to not only our department, but the students you encounter every day.

Dr. Mark Balschweid has served as ALEC Department Head at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln since 2008. He is also a professor in the department and, since July 1, 2019, has served as the interim executive director of the Rural Futures Institute. The ALEC Department welcomes Dr. Balschweid's re-appointment.

Join us on Tuesday, May 19 from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. for a day of community conversations related to civic life in Nebraska and to develop shared action steps for how we can improve it.
