What has been your favorite ALEC class and why?

ALEC 466: Leadership & Diversity was my favorite ALEC class. It was extremely difficult, but I learned so much about myself and how to handle diversity. Dr. Helen Fagan pushes her students and although in the moment I felt it was a lot of material to comprehend, I know I learned valuable information for my future as a leader in the industry.

What is one college experience that has been impactful?

One of the programs I’ve been most involved with is NHRI: Leadership Mentoring. I have been lucky enough to meet with my mentee for the past three years, and we have learned so much from each other. NHRI is a great program that has allowed me to create a relationship with a high school student in the Lincoln area. She has taught me so much, and I am forever thankful for NHRI for bringing us together.

What is your favorite memory from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

My best memory at UNL is definitely anytime I was with my mentees/mentors in the William H. Thompson program. Watching fellow students tackle their passions and see what they could do was awesome to see. It was an amazing experience to be able to watch the skills they cultivated each month as leaders in our community.

What would you say to a prospective student interested in Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management?

I would want to say that college goes quicker than expected and to get to know the professors. HRTM has faculty who care beyond grades and want to see you thrive as a student and professional. Take the time to get to know them and learn from their experiences. And again, college goes so quickly, so get to know those around you because soon you’ll be graduating with them.

What are your future plans?

I plan to grow my experience with a position in community engagement in Lincoln or Omaha so that I am able to continue my career out of state.
