Lincoln, Neb. – Tyler Quick has been selected to represent the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication as a student ambassador for the 2020 – 2021 academic year.

Tyler Quick is a junior leadership student from Alliance, Nebraska. Tyler has taken an active role in shaping his college experience. In addition to serving as a student ambassador, he is also involved in the Engler Entrepreneurship Program, is working towards a minor in Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship and has interned for Nebraska 4-H at the Box Butte County Extension Office. In that role, he focused on 4-H programming, project assistance, curriculum development and delivery and fair preparation.

Tyler describes the ALEC department as “a second family”. He says “Everyone pushes us students to grow, learn, change, and to always be and do our best. The interest in students taken by faculty members is second to none and I am extremely grateful for all the relationships I have made with faculty members.”

His favorite classes were ALEC 302: Dynamics of Effective Leadership and ALEC 466: Leadership & Diversity. He says “both classes have pushed me far beyond my comfort zone and have taught me the importance of self and social awareness as well as the value of vulnerability and how it relates to personal growth.”

Following college, Tyler hopes to “continue working with youth and families by studying leadership at the graduate level or attend law school to earn a J.D and work to reform family law practices.”

As an ALEC Student Ambassador, Tyler will help promote the ALEC Department on campus and to prospective students and families while further developing leadership and communication skills. He will assist in recruitment and retention events, represent all aspects of the department, and help generate awareness about careers in agricultural leadership, education and communication.
