Brooke Talbott defends her Masters of Applied Science project: "Wild Edges", Monday, November 30 at 3 p.m. via Zoom.

Synopsis: Wild Edges is the culmination of three-years' worth of study and personal journey witnessing the restoration process of Marsh Wren Community Wetland, a saline wetland site located just north of Lincoln, Nebraska. Only about 4,000 acres of saline wetland habitat remain from the historic 20,000+ acres that covered much of the land where the city of Lincoln now exists.

These endangered wetlands contain unique plant and animal species who are found nowhere else in the world except in portions of southeast Nebraska. We have endured great losse by allowing the degradation, ditching, draining and disappearance of these saline wetland sites through time. Yet not all is lost; restoration is in motion and there is a wildness that endures just outside our doorsteps.

Brooke will be reading from a collection of original writings paired with photography and other digital art that is centered around the Marsh Wren and the passage of time.

Following the reading and imagery, she will transition into "lessons learned" and conclude with a Q&A session. For a sneak peak, read the Lincoln Journal Star article, "Urban Jungle". If you are interested in attending, please contact Jennifer Greenlee at jgreenlee2@unl.edu for the link by 3 p.m. Monday.
