The University of Nebraska—Lincoln’s Agricultural Leadership Education and Communication department was awarded the Outstanding Post Secondary Program of the Year by the Nebraska Agricultural Educators Association (NAEA) at the NAEA Awards Ceremony on June 11th at the Nebraska Career Education Conference. Award winners are nominated and selected by their peers.

The Outstanding Post Secondary Agriculture Program Award honors postsecondary institutions, farm business management programs, full-time young farmers and adult agricultural education programs who are developing humble leaders energized by shaping the future of agriculture one student or adult at a time.

The University of Nebraska—Lincoln’s Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication department (ALEC) has maintained a focus on agricultural education teacher preparation since 1917. Today, ALEC’s teacher preparation program has expanded to nine faculty members and a graduate assistant as it works to 1) attract and prepare future teachers, 2) onboard alternatively certified teachers, and 3) support current teachers across Nebraska.

The UNL ALEC department is seen as contributors to Nebraska’s Team Ag Ed and maintains valuable partnerships with NAEA, NDE, the Nebraska FFA Association, the Nebraska FFA Alumni and Supporters Council, the Nebraska FFA Foundation, Nebraska’s Community Colleges, the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, and others. Additionally, UNL ALEC is active in the American Association of Agricultural Education, the professional organization for teacher-educators that emphasizes research and scholarly outputs supporting SBAE and beyond.

NAEA is a professional organization consisting of 200 agricultural education instructors from across the state with membership also in the National Association of Agricultural Educators.
