Go Beyond the Classroom

Join

The Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT) Club provides AESC majors with an opportunity to connect with other students who share their passion for communications and all things agriculture.

Monthly meetings focus on current issues, career development, and life as an AESC student. Ultimately, members learn and collaborate while building strong connections within the program. Dues are affordable at only $25 per year and the benefits always outweigh the cost to join.

Leadership Opportunities

The UNL chapter of ACT offers leadership roles including President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Communications Director. Members who take on these roles can both connect to like-minded people in their major and add leadership experience to their resume. Monthly “Think Tank” sessions allow ACT members to hear from fellow agricultural communications students across the country. ACT is all about connecting students to post-graduation opportunities.

Attend the Ag Media Summit

Every summer, ACT members can attend the Ag Media Summit to network with professionals in the industry, socialize with other students that are interested in similar career path, and tour organizations and businesses in the Ag Media sector. Students can also showcase their work by competing in writing, photo, video, and design competitions. All AESC majors should join ACT as soon as they get to campus – the benefits are lifelong!

Scholarships

National ACT offers annual scholarships available exclusively to dues paying members.

AESC strongly encourages students to study abroad during their time at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Students who study abroad always say that it is one of the most memorable experiences of their college career. While some majors have limitations on time, AESC allows space in the major for interested students to study abroad.

Scholarships are available to all UNL students, as is help getting a passport.

Both full-semester-long and summer study abroad opportunities are available. Be sure to mention your interest to your advisor during your first semester so we can help plan your study abroad experience.

Experience

AESC majors have opportunities for experiential learning both in the classroom and beyond. For example, after learning foundational communications skills, students apply their knowledge to an extracurricular internship while also earning academic credit.

Choose a business, nonprofit, or organization you’d like to work with and contribute to real-world communications work in the field of agriculture or environmental sciences! Whether your plans after graduation are to join the workforce or further your education in a graduate program, ALEC students build the professional networks and communications portfolios needed to secure their next steps.
