Mary Garbacz is an assistant professor of practice in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from UNL in broadcast journalism.

Garbacz has taught Broadcast Writing, Technical Communication and Magazine Writing in the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications and has her own freelance technical writing business. She joined the ALEC department in 2011.

Garbacz coordinated Strategic Discussions for Nebraska from 2007-2011 in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications and has coordinated the project in the ALEC department from 2011 to the present time. The annual publication is produced alongside students enrolled in ALEC 480.

She is interested in helping students communicate complex science with clarity, accuracy and objectivity to meet the needs of specific audiences.
