Dear NHRI Leadership Mentoring Parent,
Greetings from East Campus! As you may recall from our remarks at NHRI Leadership Mentoring’s Annual Recognition Day a few years ago, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) has implemented a Youth Activity Safety Policy to provide a safe environment for youths participating in UNL sponsored activities, such as NHRI. The Youth Safety Policy was implemented to assure a safe, positive, and nurturing environment for all youth involved with UNL. The policy as well as the Activity Worker Guidelines can be found at the UNL Police website.
NHRI’s Staff and Board have worked closely with UNL’s legal department, Center for Civic Engagement, and Office of Business and Finance to formulate risk waivers for NHRI Leadership Mentors and parents of NHRI Leadership Mentees modeled after UNL’s uniform risk waiver. This risk waiver is purely designed to outline any potential risk and to outline safe interaction guidelines. All NHRI Leadership Mentors will be signing a similar document and going through a sex offender registry check. This policy will help to protect participating youths from potential misconduct incidents and help to provide a safe, educational, and enjoyable NHRI experience.
Please review the enclosed Uniform Waiver Form (PDF file, 255KB), sign, and return to the NHRI Leadership Mentoring. This form can also be scanned and e-mailed to lhastings2@unl.edu with your confirmation rather than a physical signature if desired.
If there are any questions relative to this risk waiver, please feel free to contact me via phone (402-472-3477), e-mail (lhastings2@unl.edu), or in person (143 Filley Hall, East Campus).
Thank you for your child’s participation in NHRI! We consider it a genuine honor to develop your child’s leadership talents.
Warm regards,
Lindsay Hastings, Ph.D.
NHRI Executive Director
